Our History
One Heart Church was founded by five families as a mission of Grace Baptist Church in Rome, New York. These five families purchased a five-bedroom home (the present parsonage) and used the living room for worship services and the basement for Sunday School classes. Rev. John T. Davis was the mission pastor.
As the congregation grew they called Rev. Darrell Coble to be their first pastor, constituting as Floyd Baptist Church on September 14, 1969. Due to expanding growth, the two-car garage was remodeled to have a larger worship space and plans were developed to build a separate worship facility. In the Spring of 1973, the church called its second pastor, Rev. John Barnett, and the congregation moved into their newly completed church building.
On January 9, 1977, Rev. Barnett was succeeded by Floyd's third pastor, Rev. Tim Morris. Rev. Morris left after two years to serve as a Southern Baptist Missionary to South Korea and the church called Rev. Jim Byington as its fourth pastor. Brother Jim left after about a year and a half to become a chaplain in the U. S. Air Force. Floyd Baptist called its fifth pastor, Rev. Mike Haley, on November 13, 1983. Pastor Mike served almost five years before departing in October of 1988.
On June 10, 1990, Rev. David Pope became the sixth pastor of Floyd Baptist Church. On June 8, 1994, Floyd Baptist Church officially became One Heart Church, reemphasizing their strong call to reach the unchurched with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. On October 4, 1998 Rev Dr. Pope resigned the pastorate at One Heart Church to serve as Associational Missionary to the Greater Syracuse and Thousand Island Baptist Associations of Central New York.
One Heart Church was led by two interim pastors Dr. David Shackelford and Dr. Van McClain. A short-term pastorate (7 months) was held by Rev. Joel Gardner the churches seventh pastor. After the North American Mission Board had re-aligned the associations boundries in the USA in 2000 and the Greater Syracuse & Thousand Island Baptist Association was partially combined with the Central NY Baptist Association, Dr. David Pope returned as the eighth pastor of One Heart Church on December 1, 2000. In April 2003, Pastor Pope resigned from the pastorate at One Heart Church to take a position in Indiana.
One Heart was blessed to have Dr. Shawn Buice serve as interim pastor from April 2003 through February 2004. Rev.Terry King was then called as the ninth pastor and served from March 6, 2004 until October 2, 2005.
October 9, 2005, Rev. Timothy M. Scott served as interim pastor until March 5, 2006 when Rev. Timothy M. Scott was voted to be the tenth pastor of One Heart Church. Rev. Scott is a native of Upstate New York. Pastor Scott is currently ministering at One Heart Church. Rev. Scott is also a chaplain with Market Place Chaplains USA serving our Lord Jesus Christ in the work place venue.
